Jenny and Thomas founded Solvej in 1993. A few months before their daughter Solvej was born they settled in rural New Zealand in Jenny's home village of Matiere. As a cabinetmaker and craft teacher Thomas had a dream of owning his own workshop. Solvej loved to swing and not being able to find a swing they liked on the market (most of them were moulded plastic), they made Solvej a canvas baby swing themselves.
Quality craftsmanship and the environment are important to Jenny and Thomas. Naturally weather durable, sustainable timber is used to avoid chemical treatment and the pollution that can come with that. Solvej outdoor swings feature 100% acrylic canvas (with a 10-year manufacturer's warrantee from fading) because it is rot-proof and easy to care for. The rope used is a New Zealand made soft high performance polyester yachting braid due to its strength and UV resistance. The paint used is non-toxic acrylic water bound paint.
